Andrew Litton, Artistic Director of Sommerfest, returns to the Orchestra Hall podium for music that's uniquely his own. Rare among today's conductors, Litton met Shostakovich and established a powerful connection to his symphonies. The Seventh, written during World War II, is an inspired testament to the triumph of the human spirit. This Russian program also spotlights violinist Vadim Gluzman, who has wowed us in summer, and now makes his subscription concert debut with Prokofiev's soulful Concerto No. 2.
