Creekview Park, located in the northwest corner of Minneapolis, is part of the Shingle Creek neighborhood within the larger Camden Community. The park is on the east bank of Shingle Creek, a 12-mile waterbed that is home to many small mammals and birds. Shingle Creek Park is on the west bank of the creek. The banks provide a natural environment for walking and biking paths. The bike path continues through Minneapolis and into Brooklyn Park. The two parks combined total 68 acres.
The park was acquired in 1948. The creek channel was widened and lowered in 1958 and a shelter building was erected in 1959 along with a foot bridge over the creek. The creek itself had the appearance of a drainage ditch until extensive planting was completed in the mid-1970s.
In 1972 a recreation center was built next to then Olson Junior High School (now an elementary school). In 1993 improvements were made along the creek trail. A skate park was added in 2005. Improvements were also made to athletic field #4, a Minnesota Twins field.
A new playground was built in 2007, which features a 30' high slide (the only 3-story play structure in the Minneapolis park system), plus three individual slides, swings, a tot lot and a rock climbing structure.
