Located in South Minneapolis, Corcoran Park is one of the smaller parks in the city, but is still a valuable asset to the community.
As a show of the community commitment to this park, every year the Corcoran Festival is held here. A new festival was added to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
Join us for festivals, sporting activities, picnics and play. It's a great way to get to know other people in your neighborhood and have some fun.
The land for Corcoran Park was acquired from the Minneapolis School Board in 1975. Two years later initial development began, including a recreation building. Named in honor of William Wilson Corcoran, founder of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the three-acre park was first dedicated in 1979.
A second dedication ceremony was held in 2001 to celebrate improvements. When first constructed the park contained tennis courts and horseshoe pits. However, when these facilities were not used, two playgrounds were added and the tennis court was converted into an outdoor volleyball court. The park has been tailored to meet the needs of the neighborhood and as a result the community uses the new amenities extensively.
