Located near Lakes Nokomis and Hiawatha, this is the only Minneapolis Public Library named after a character from literature: the Iroquois maiden Nokomis from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem, The Song of Hiawatha . In keeping with the theme, the building's peaked roof design suggests a low tepee. Building Facts Built 1968; 13,400 sq. ft.; parking lot entered from 51st St. Special Features "Wind and Water" chime that reflects the image of nearby Minnehaha Falls; center "loft" for quiet reading; home improvement section funded by the neighborhood.
