Reading Technology Workshop

In this session, attendees will be given hands on experience to accomplish the following:
Definition of Alternative Print and acquiring it for class reading content
How to use Learning Ally and BookShare in the classroom and at home
How to search and download a book from Learning Ally to include:
Listening to on computer 
Listening to on a portable android device/MP3 
Listening to on an iOS device (iPad/iPhone/iTouch) 
 How to search and download a book from BookShare using following tools:
Kurzweil 
ROL 
iOS device (iPad/iPhone/iTouch)
Read&Write Gold
 
Prerequisites to WORKSHOP
Attendees must bring laptop with wireless to the session
MP3 Player, Itouch, Ipad, Iphone desired but optional
Have iTunes loaded with an active membership (if using Apple products)
Have a membership to Itunes (if using Apple products), Learning Ally (formally called RFBD) and Bookshare  with userids and passwords created ahead of time.  - Instructions will be mailed prior to the class. 
Recommended: iTunes, Learning Ally tools, and Read:Outloud from Bookshare preloaded prior to session (instructions will be mailed prior to the class). Support will be provided during registration (8:30-9:00 a.m.) for those who are having difficulty with installation. Note- there will not be additional time allocated during the presentation given the amount of content to cover and it is advised to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to ensure installation issues can be taken care of.
Attendees must be knowledgeable in how to use their computer - the focus will be on teaching the tools versus basic computer knowledge  
Registration begins at 8:30 Am. Workshop begins at 9:00 Am. Please arrive early so that we can set you up for the wireless network. Presenters:   Erika Kluge Frake M.F.C.S. is the Director of Think with Success. As an Assistive
Technology Specialist and Special Educator, she has several years of experience working with students in grades 2 through college to enhance their academic success through the use of Assistive Technology (At) in the areas of reading, writing, note-taking, and executive function. Erika has presented about the benefits of At in the academic setting at several local and national conferences as well as for school districts and organizations. Conferences include: Brian Injury Association, Closing the Gap, Charting the C's, Cram, Csun, Minnesota Council for Talented and Gifted, MN Psychology Association, Statewide Physical/Health Disabilities Network, Pacer workshops, and the Ida and Upper Midwest Branch conference.
 
 
  Cindee McCarthy has a MBA with a concentration in Information Systems from the Univerity of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She is the current president of the International Dyslexia Association - Upper Midwest Branch. Cindee has presented reading and writing technology solutions at Closing the Gap, the Minnesota Department of Education Technology Conference, Pacer workshops and Upper Midwest Branch conferences.
 
Due to the prequiste requirements of this workshop - No walk in registrations accepted
Fee structures are based per family (maximum of two people per family)
IDA Members - a discount code will be sent in a seperate e-mail
Groves Families - Groves will sent out a discount code in a seperate email
Certificate of attendance will be offered for Ceu hours.
Handouts are guaranteed to pre-registered participants. One handout copy per family
In case of inclement weather and cancellation, please check your emails. Notification of cancellations will be sent out by 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event. Full refunds will be provided in event of cancellation.
