THE SEVENTH ANNUAL SCOTTISH ISLAND CONCERT
Friday, February 6, 2009 *7:30 p.m.**Olivet Congregational Church, St. Paul
Something Old, Something New: Ancient Scottish Airs and Newly-Minted Tunes
Imagine yourself on a small Scottish island in the local community hall on a dark winter’s night. Inside, island musicians wait to regale you with Scottish songs and tunes, readings from author Audrey McClellan, and a superb Scottish tea at intermission. Be an islander for a night on Eilean Dubh (“Ay-lan Dew”), where once a year for the past six years this concert materializes early in February (more reliably than Brigadoon). Enjoy an evening of traditional Scottish music presented by Dunquin Trio (Don Ladig, Sherry Ladig, and Nathan Gourley) with special guest musician, internationally acclaimed Laura MacKenzie. See Eilean Dubh magically appear Friday, February 6th at 7:30 p.m. at Olivet Congregational Church’s Social Hall, 1850 Iglehart Avenue in Saint Paul’s Merriam Park (one block north of Marshall Avenue and one block west of Fairview Avenue). Admission is twelve dollars at the door and includes the complimentary Scottish sweets and savories tea. This is a very special event, not to be missed if you love traditional Celtic music.
Dunquin Trio is a Merriam Park-based traditional Celtic band which plays Irish and Scottish music and has recently added American Civil War-era music to its repertoire. The band appears at festivals, historic sites and private engagements and has released two studio recordings and three live concert recordings. Laura MacKenzie is an internationally known multi-instrumentalist and singer who has recorded with nearly every Celtic band in the Twin Cities, has several recordings of her own, and performs and teaches at major festivals in the U.S. and abroad. Audrey McClellan is the author of the beloved and popular Scottish Island novels series and lives in Minneapolis.
